AUBURN MITES CAPTURE CHAMPIONSHIP IN ROME
The Auburn Ice Hawks Mites (white) team Padula dropped their first game Friday afternoon of the tournament to Rome #2 0-1 with goalie Connor Wilcox making 11 saves. This game was a hard fought defensive game played by both teams.
In Saturday’s first game Auburn Ice Hawks Mites (white) team Padula skated to a 2-2 tie against New Hartford. Goals came from Ryan Padula and Evan Bulla with helpers from Peter MacIntyre and Gavin Wakeham. Connor Wilcox recorded 13 saves.
Saturday’s 2nd game was another hard fought defensive game with the Auburn Ice Hawks Mite (white) team Padula capturing their first win of the tournament against Rome #1 2-1. Evan Malloy and Morgan Winslow each recorded goals while Nate Forward, Greg Bates, and Maloy were each credited with assists in the contest. Connor Wilcox turned away 17 shots.
In Sunday’s Semi-Finals game Auburn squared off against Rome #1 again coming out victorious with a 3-0 win. Greg Bates scored 2 goals while Gavin Wakeham netted the other. Ryan Padula and Mason Winslow were both credited with 2 assists each. Connor Wilcox made 18 saves.
In the Championship Game Auburn rolled past Clifton Park with an 8-3 victory to secure the Championship. This game was an all around team win with numerous players getting tallies on the scoresheet. Evan Maloy paced the offense with 3 goals (hat trick) and 1 assist. Other players to record goals in the game were Ryan Padula, Gavin Wakeham, Lilly Jones, Morgan Winslow, and Greg Bates. Assists came from the sticks of the following: Mason Winslow 3 (play maker), while Jones, Bates, Wakeham, Padula, and Bulla were each credited with 1 apiece. Wilcox had 10 saves.
Coaching staff credited the teams defense lead by Evan Bulla, Nate Forward and Peter MacIntyre.
The Auburn Community Hospital Squirt team won the Salmon River Hockey Tournament this weekend behind the great goal tending of Ben Chapman.
In their first game they beat Tri County 6-4. Alexia Jackson had 3 goals, Giovanni Manzone had 2 goals, and LT Tomandl had one. Assists were LT Tomandl (2), Giovanni Manzone, Ryan McKay and Phoenix Murphy all had one.
In Their second game Auburn beat Oswego 16-0. LT Tomandl 4 goals, Alexia Jackson 3, Ryan McKay 2, Evan Steinbecher 2, Anthony Ciampi, Ely Williams, Zach Jones and Mason Horsford all had one. Assists were credited to, Tomandl (2), Manzone (3), Steinbecher (2), Sydney Socci, McKay, Horsford, Orion Ferguson and Jones all had one.
In the 3rd game Auburn beat the Salmon River Storm 5-2. Alexia Jackson (3), Ryan McKay (1), Evan Steinbecher (1) had goals, LT Tomandl, Ryan McKay and Anthony Ciampi had assists.
In the championship game Auburn once again faced Tri County this time winning 4-2. LT Tomandl had 2 goals, Alexia Jackson and Ryan McKay each had one. Assists were credited to Tomandl (1) and Jackson (2).
Ben Chapman had 56 saves in 4 games for the Ice Hawks.
The Siracusa Mechanical Squirts brought home the championship win from the Connor LaFrance Memorial Squirt Tournament in Saratoga this weekend. They snagged the win Friday against Placid, 9-3. Cal Maher had five goals and Luke Siracusa snagged a hat trick. Josiah Freier also added a goal. Brody Johnson and Sam Thornton each added an assist. Tanner Marcellus had 12 saves in net.
Saturday, the Ice Hawks defeated Bethlehem, 4-0. Marcellus earned the shutout. Maher had two goals, while Aiden Weaver and Kingston McGuire (assist) also added one. Addison Baier and Siracusa each chipped in with an assist.
Saturday in the second game, Auburn won against Saratoga, 10-1. Maher (assist) and McGuire each nabbed a hat trick. Baier and Freier (two assists) both scored twice. Assists were also credited to Thornton (three), Siracusa (two), Johnson and Tristan White. Marcellus had three saves in the net.
Sunday the Ice Hawks won the championship against Bethlehem 8-3. Freier (assist), Maher (two assists) and McGuire all scored twice. Baier (assist) and Siracusa both added a goal. Weaver had three assists. Marcellus had four saves in the net.
