GUIDELINES
AUBURN ICE
HAWKS
P. O. Box 1477 Auburn New York 13021
(315) 497-0113
2000-2001
The purpose of this Guidebook is to outline the structure and policies of
the Club. The guidelines are subject to change from time to time as
directed by the Board of Directors.
The Club is governed in accordance with the Constitution and by-laws,
which are available from any Board member.
The
Board of Directors is as follows: (see-attached list).
The Club rents ice from the City of Auburn at Casey Park on a season
basis for both games and practices. Rental
times are limited, and we obtain the best possible times that we can.
Teams may rent additional ice time, if available, on their own initiative
and cost coordinated through the Club Ice Scheduler. Ice rental cost to the Club this year is anticipated to be
$45.00 per hour. We are responsible
for maintaining cleanliness when we use Casey Park as a guest of the City of
Auburn.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Auburn Hockey Club will promote good sportsmanship, respect,
discipline, self-esteem and fun to all levels and members while enhancing skills
to accommodate the full spectrum of player’s abilities.

PLAYER MOVEMENT Players
may not, under any circumstances, play in divisions under their age.
In order for an Initiation player to move up to Mites he/she must meet
the following criteria.
1)
Have been in the program for a minimum of 2 years.
2)
Pass a
physical test of their skating skills given by the Coaching Coordinator and the
Mite Coordinator. This will is a
standardized test (the same test given each year). A copy of the test is attached.
Exceptional players above the Initiation level may play in Travel
divisions above their age. The
definition of an exceptional player is: The individual’s hockey skills and
playing ability has consistently excelled beyond the other player on his/her
current team and in his/her current league.
The player would become an impact player on the team that he/she is
moving to. An impact player would
be one of the 4 or 5 top forwards or one of the top 2 defenseman. An impact
goalie should be the first string goalie, or be of equal ability to the first
string goalie.
In
order for an individual to play up a letter of recommendation must be submitted
to the Board by the Coach from the previous season. The Board will then seek information from all available
sources, including the Coach of the team that the player seeks to go to.
If no Coach has been named the Board will seek information from the
Coaching Coordinator.
The parents or guardian of the player must make a request to play up in writing by submitting a letter to the Board detailing the request and the reasons for it. This request must be made so it can be discussed at the last Board Meeting before tryouts. If no letter is received or not received on time the Board will take no action. The
Board will make the final decision on player movement on an individual by
individual basis. The decision will
be based on several factors, including but not limited to the following: the
player’s current ability, the potential for development, the players social
maturity, the number of players existing at the level the player is leaving, as
well as at the level the player wishes to go.
Weight will also be given to the overall impact of the move on the club.

Payment Structure
All
members should be sure to receive receipts for any payments made to the Club.
Raffle TicketsIn addition to registration fees all club members registering will be required to prepay for $50.00 worth Raffle tickets. The ticket can then be sold and the member can keep the money or they can not sell them, sign the tickets and put them in the raffle.Families
with more than one player will receive discounted rates and ticket requirements.
Hardship
The
Auburn Ice Hawks Hockey Club will provide an equal opportunity to amateur
athletes, coaches, managers, trainers, administrators and officials to
participate in amateur athletic competition without discrimination on the basis
of race, color, religion, age, sex or national origin.
Registration is required of all members and financial obligations must be
met by the date set by the Board of Directors.
The Board may allow hardship cases.
These cases may occur where the
registration dues required create a financial burden.
The Board may elect to have a portion or the
entire registration fee waived.
A member requesting hardship
must submit a letter to the Board of Directors explaining their situation of how
and why the registration dues create a hardship.
If approved by the Board, only the registration fee is affected. All other financial responsibilities that arise during the
course of the season are to be met, just as any other member, i.e. Tournament
fees, extra ice time, equipment, etc. All
members must abide by the guidelines set forth by the Board.
This includes all matters related to supervision, transportation, and all
rules of the Auburn Ice Hawks Hockey Club and USA Hockey.
The Club reserves the right after fair hearing to make all final decision
in matters concerning hardship.
Skating
Ability
It is expected that many first-year players in the initiation, Mite and
Squirt Divisions may not know how to skate.
New players in the PeeWee Division and older are to have sufficient
skating ability to participate with their peers.
The Club has very limited ice hours available, and expects each player to
practice skating on their own time. This
is particularly important for younger players who are expected to skate at least
twice a week aside from Club activities. Skating
is a fundamental hockey skill and must be diligently practiced.
Additional Practices
It is the policy of the club that all Initiation
practices are open to any club member from Squirt Travel and bellow.
It is the policy of the club that if a player wishes to practice with
another team in addition to his/her assigned team he/she may do so.
In order to do this the player must first ask the coaches permission.
He/she must be at the practice fully dressed and ready to go before the
practice starts. He/she must remain
on the ice for the whole practice or until the coach dismisses him/her.
Permission is granted at the discretion of the coach whose practice
he/she wishes to go to. That coach
may either allow it or not depending on what that days practice plan is.
Team
Structure & Selection
The Club has CNY, Tier II and Snowbelt teams.
CNY teams (Travel Teams) are those registered with USA Hockey as such and
participate in USA Hockey year-end tournaments.
Snowbelt and Tier II teams comprise the balance of teams in each
category. All teams are registered with USA Hockey.
A
player who meets the Player Movement requirements, and wants to play up an age
level can only play on the Travel Team of the next level.
There is no scenario in which a player can move up to the next level and
play on a Tier II or Snowbelt team.
Available players dictate team size.
It is the intention that the most skilled players shall play
on the Travel Teams. Players and parents on Travel Teams must understand that
these teams are organized to provide competitive hockey for skilled players. All
players may not receive equal ice time.
Teams will play to win at the Coaches discretion.
The Coach will receive discretionary guidelines from the Board of
Directors.
Once
the Travel team has been selected, it is the intention that the next most
skilled players shall play on the Tier II Teams. In Tier II players must play at their own age group. Tier II
Teams are developmentally oriented, meaning that all players are to receive
approximately equal ice time. The
intent of these teams is to give players who did not make the Travel teams an
opportunity to develop among the best remaining players of their age group.
This will hopefully help them to be more competitive at the Travel Team
tryout the following year.
It
is the intention that the balance of the players shall play on the Snowbelt
Teams. Snowbelt Teams are
developmentally oriented, meaning that all players are to receive approximately
equal ice.
At the beginning of each season, several practices are held for all players interested in “trying out” for the Travel and Tier II teams. During these tryouts the skill of the player is evaluated. The Travel Team coach then selects those players for his team, assisted by aSelection
Committee, afterwards there is an additional tryout for Tier II Teams, then the
Snowbelt Coaches divide the remaining players by draft.
It is the intent of the Auburn Ice Hawks to provide hockey skills and
education that will promote and support scholastic and high school hockey.
Scheduling
Under the direction of the Board of Directors the Club Scheduler
schedules all games. Any Club sponsored tournament participation is to be approved
by the Board.
